Gordon and his wife, Crystal, met through friends in Clovis, New Mexico. They began dating in December, 1961 and were married four months later. They have been married 45 years and have one child: Terri Heimerman who lives in Woodbury, Minnesota with her husband, Thomas, three daughters: Crystal, Aleksandra, and Jillian.

Gordon was drafted in 1962, serving two years in the U S Army. He then attended Eastern New Mexico University while working full-time at the U S Postal Service and graduated with honors with a double major in Finance and Business Administration. He was employed for 37 years as a city carrier, auditor, and Postmaster with the U S Postal Service in New Mexico. He served as a Clovis City Commissioner for a 4 year term. Gordon and Crystal moved to Fayetteville in 1995, where he became a real estate associate/broker. In 1997, Gordon came to First Baptist Church as Financial Secretary. He is currently Church Administrator, maintaining the finances and overseeing the maintenance of the facilities.

Q – Where were you born and raised?
A – I was born and grew up on a farm in the Ranchvale community, outside of Clovis, New Mexico.

Q – What was your first vehicle?
A – My brother and I had a Model-T Ford that did not have a top. It was just a frame, motor, and a double seat. We drove it around the farm, to school, and to friend’s homes throughout the rural community.

Q – Why do you love First Baptist Church?
A – I love the people, my Sunday School class Bible Study, and hearing God’s Word taught.
